TX Truck Driver Cited for Careless Driving Over I-70 Car Crash

A 22-year-old truck driver, identified as Abdullateef Akilo, was cited by the Colorado State Patrol after he caused an I-70 car crash on the Floyd Hill western side earlier this month.

It was a Saturday afternoon when his rig went downhill on I-70 and crashed into Jersey barriers. It was a long-haul truck carrying five cars. The truck’s cab (where the driver sits) got separated from the rest of the truck. The trailer of the truck got passed over the Jersey barriers and went downhill into the embankment. The five vehicles over it spilled on the way, and the debris was all over the Clear Creek.

Akilo hails from Houston, Texas. As per CSP troop Josh Lewis, Akilo was set to present before the court in late November or early December. Akilo can pay the fines and end the case. However, if he wants to fight the case, he has to be physically present in the court, explained Josh.

The truck driver also suffered minor injuries as a result of the I-70 car crash. Luckily, no other vehicle was coming into our way during the incident. Following the crash, the lanes of Interstate 70 and Highway 6 were closed until the debris was cleared. The traffic was diverted. According to CSP, “The recovery operation of the spilled cargo was extensive.”

One of the witnesses of the accident also termed it as ‘terrifying.’ He was also the person who called 911 with the help of Twitter. His Twitter handle is SRTCassidy, and his tweet read as, “The impact lifted the truck and trailer off the ground, slammed into the barrier again, then the trailer detached from the truck. I saw the trailer go over the barrier, and I saw the undercarriage of the truck.”
