Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 87 Kills One Man, Injures Two
A two-vehicle crash on Highway 87 crash took place on Thursday, December 3. The incident resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another two.
According to the details shared by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the two vehicles were identified as a 2013 Dodge pickup truck and a 2001 Nissan passenger vehicle. The incident came about when one of the vehicles failed to yield right of way to the other vehicle at an intersection.
The two vehicles collided with one another at the SH 87 and FM 2626. The Nissan was traveling westbound along the FM 2626 at the time. As the vehicle reached the intersection, it had a stop sign. However, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop in time and continued down the road. This brought the vehicle directly into the path of the Dodge pickup which was traveling northbound on SH 87 at the time.
The Dodge pickup truck crashed into the left side of the Nissan. The incident in the morning and was reported to the authorities just after 9 a.m.
The Nissan had two occupants in it at the time. The driver was identified as William Hall, 68, of Newton. Hall sustained critical injuries in the crash. Once the local authorities reached the scene of the crash, Hall was pronounced dead by the Justice of the Peace Mike Greer.
The passenger traveling in the Nissan was identified as Barney Simmons, 59, of Newton. Simmons sustained serious injuries in the collision. After receiving primary medical aid from the first responders, he was airlifted to the St. Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.
The Dodge had only its driver in it when the collision occurred. The driver was identified as Mason Garcilazo, 27, of Aransas Pass, Texas. Garcilazo also had serious injuries from the two-vehicle crash on Highway 87 and was flown to the hospital.
