18-Wheeler Truck Hit in Force by an Amtrak Train
An 18-wheeler truck was hit by an Amtrak train in Cibolo, Texas, after it was stranded on the trucks due to poor vehicle clearance. The incident was captured on video by a driver nearby and shows the train hitting the truck in force, with the driver of the truck barely escaping the debris from the crash.
The incident took place in the early morning of last Tuesday at the FM 78 and Country Lane crossing. A driver attempted to cross the train tracks while riding a black trailer-tractor. However, subsequent investigations by the local police show that the tractor had a low clearance. As a result, when the driver tried to drive it across the high tracks, the vehicle got stuck on the tracks.
As the vehicle was stuck on the tracks, an Amtrak train drew close to it. The train then crashed into the 18-wheeler truck, destroying its rear completely and sending the truck itself into a 180-degree spin. The driver of the truck was able to leap out of it just in time. The footage of the incident shows the driver running away from the crash as the tractor is destroyed in the background and its debris hurled towards the driver by the train.
The driver later told the police that he had been instructed by the dispatcher to follow this route. Police have also reported that the truck belonged to a company, Cemex. Amtrak has also issued a statement in the wake of the crash. In this statement, the company has revealed that the train involved in the incident was traveling between Los Angeles and New Orleans. At the time of the collision, 116 passengers were on board the train. Fortunately, none of them was injured, although it is not clear if the train sustained any damage in the crash.
