Ozempic

Patients who used Ozempic, Mounjaro, or other diabetes and weight loss drugs and have been diagnosed with gastroparesis, stomach paralysis (“frozen stomach”), or other serious gastrointestinal conditions may qualify to file a lawsuit and receive compensation for their injuries.

However, around this time, media outlets also began reporting on serious stomach problems among patients who were taking these drugs for weight loss or diabetes treatment.

Some patients who have used Ozempic or similar semaglutides have developed gastroparesis, a chronic condition which causes a weakening of the nerves and muscles in the stomach. Because these nerves and muscles are weaker in patients with gastroparesis, patients with this condition have trouble transferring food to the small intestines, causing nausea, diarrhea, or other side effects.

In addition to Ozempic, the FDA has also received reports of serious stomach conditions linked to other drugs used for weight loss and diabetes treatment.

These medications – along with Ozempic – are part of a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Other brand name and generic medications that are part of this class of drugs include:

• Mounjaro (tirzepatide)
• Rybelsus (semiglutide)
• Saxenda (liraglutide)
• Trulicity (dulaglutide)

Besides gastroparesis, Ozempic, and the above medications have also been linked to other serious stomach conditions, including:

• Bowel obstructions
• Ileus (inability of the intestine to push food or waste out of the body)
• Intestinal blockages
• Stomach paralysis (“frozen stomach”)
