Fatal Collision Kills Motorcyclist, Other Driver Later Found Dead
A motorcyclist lost his life in a fatal crash that took place a few miles from Silsbee, Texas. The deceased was identified as Mark Wallace, 61, of Beaumont. Wallace was an HVAC teacher at the Silsbee High School.
According to the details shared by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred on Sunday, September 13. Wallace was traveling southbound on the FM 92 when his Kawasaki came into collision with a 1998 Chevrolet passenger car. The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as Jerry Sangwin, 53, of Spurger.
Investigations by the Texas troopers revealed that Sangwin had been traveling on the FM 92 when his car somehow left the roadway and entered into a roadside ditch. As Wallace was approaching the scene of the incident, Sangwin was backing his car out of the ditch and onto the roadway. It was then that the Kawasaki Wallace was riding collided with Sangwin’s vehicle.
The impact of the collision ejected Wallace from his motorcycle. He was then struck by another vehicle, identified as a 2008 Dodge pickup.
Wallace sustained critical injuries in the collision. He was not wearing a helmet at the time. He was pronounced dead by the Justice of the Peace Mark Ames at the scene of the accident.
Sangwin who had first collided with Wallace’s motorcycle fled the scene and drove to his home. Once the law enforcement personnel reached the accident scene, investigations led them to Sangwin’s address. The Chevrolet involved in the crash was found at the address and identified. Sangwin himself was found dead inside the house. It isn’t clear whether injuries from his first accident into the ditch caused him to die or if another factor was involved.
The driver of the pickup, who remained at the scene, remained unhurt in the incident. The accident remains under investigation by the troopers. If you’re involved in a wreck, contact our Beaumont car accident attorneys right away.
