Pedestrian Hit by Vehicle Sustains Critical Injuries

A pedestrian was hit by a passing vehicle on the Highway 49 in Orlinda, Tennessee. The teen, Tuff Slate, was transported to the Vanderbilt Medical Center where he continues to receive medical treatment.

The accident took place on Saturday night at around 10 p.m. According to Slate, he was busy playing hide-and-seek with others when the collision happened. Slate didn’t see another vehicle coming up on the road and was hit by the vehicle when he suddenly came on the road.

In the wake of the accident, Slate was left on the roadway. Officials who first arrived at the site transported Slate to the Orlinda city park. He had sustained serious injuries and the authorities had to wait so that he could be flown to the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville via LifeFlight.

The accident is currently being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The driver of the vehicle involved has been questioned by the Roberston County Sheriff’s Office. Officers have also questioned the witnesses who were present at the site of the scene.

Slate had been unconscious for some time after the accident but is now awake. Reports from the hospital also reveal that he has suffered no spinal injuries and most of the injuries seem to have occurred in the face and head area. Injuries in the head had caused swelling in the brain but doctors believe that there is no serious injury. However, doctors will be sure once the swelling subsides.

The teenager is still unable to speak. According to the family, the boy is able to respond to any questions by squeezing the hand. He is also on the ventilator for now to minimize any load on his brain.

Fault or negligence in such a case is very hard to determine. However, it will be possible once the police investigation completes and more facts become available.
