Two studies were published by the New England Journal of Medicine in Jan 07, linking Parkinson drug
Permax or pergolide with an increased risk of serious heart valve injury. The 1st study involved 155
patients who were taking Permax or Dostinex for Parkinson's disease. 23 percent of the patients
taking Permax suffered some type of heart valve damage. In the 2nd study 11,000 Parkinson's
patient's medical records were evaluated. It was found that patients taking Permax were up to 7
times more likley to develop heart valve problems than patients not taking the drug.
Patients without a prior history of Heart Disease have even suffered side effects from Permax.
Studies report cases of severe heart damage in woman who took Permax for extended periods of time.
These latest reports confirm the link between Permex and heart valve damage in patients who have taken the drug at high doses or for an extended period of time.
