Used to treat lung, sinus, skin and urinary tract infections caused by bacteria, Levaquin is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. Levaquin is commonly sold under other brand names such as: Cipro, Proquin, Avelox, Factive, Noroxin and Floxin. In 2008, the FDA issued its strongest warning on Levaquin. The warning alerted patients that fluoroquinolones like Levaquin and other various brand names have been linked to an increased risk of ruptured tendons and tendinitis. Common signs of a ruptured tendon or tendinitis are:
- A snap or pop in the tendon area
- Increased bruising following an injury
- Inability to move or bear weight on the affected area
