BCA Runs Toy Drive at Vidor and Oak Forrest Elementary

Vidor and Oak Forest Elementary receive gifts from SE Texas attorney

Southeast Texas Attorney Brent Coon gave close to 1,200 students at both Vidor, and Oak Forest Elementary a Christmas present to take home. The two schools have been forced to share a location after Tropical Storm Harvey hit the area.

“We want to be sure that at least every single kid gets at least one toy even if it’s here hopefully they get one more under the tree, but we understand what’s going on out there,” Brent Coon said.

Coon attended both schools between 1966 and 1967. He saw his old neighborhood under six feet of water. His mission is to make sure the kids of Southeast Texas have some sort of normal Christmas.

The kids sang along to Christmas music, picked out a toy to their liking, and took a picture with Santa. A special day for all the kids.

“We have so many students without homes with walls any little gift to them is a million bucks this is amazing,” said Carol Winfree, a physical education teacher in Vidor.

Brent Coon and Associates Holiday Toy and Food Drive

The Holiday Season is a time for giving. BCA has made Buckner’s Toy Drive and the Beaumont Jaycees Christmas Shopping Tour (for underprivileged and special needs children) our target charities this year.

Our Angel Tree will be located in the lobby decorated with tags and the names of children with a wish list item. As always, the toy should be placed under the tree in Brent’s section unwrapped with the original Buckner tag containing the child’s name no later than Wednesday, December 18.

Also, this year we are adopting the Jaycees Christmas Shopping Tour. There are several corporate sponsorship levels. Let’s see how many special children we can send on a Christmas shopping spree.

And don’t forget to donate non perishable food items in the box in the lobby for Christmas dinner for families in need.

Share your blessings and make someone’s Christmas special!

Thank you for your generosity!

BCA Host Red, White, & Blue Golf Tournament to Help Support the Lone Survivor Foundation

Quick update on our 2nd annual Lone Survivor Foundation military veterans golf fundraiser held last Friday, October 2, 2015. This year, we had 40 teams participate and over 50 sponsors, donating over $100,000 in potential prizes. The event netted over $35,000, more than doubling last year and breaking our target of $25,000.

The Lone Survivor Foundation helps military veterans with physical or mental health issues adjust to civilian life. Their retreat was built at Crystal Beach last year and brings veterans and their families in for individual and group counseling. Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects many returning Veterans, who commit suicide at a rate of 22 per day, more than three times the national average. The Lone Survivor Foundation was established by local hero Marcus Luttrell, a Navy Seal caught in an ambush in Afghanistan which killed all of his team and all the members of a rescue helicopter. A movie by the same title starring Mark Wahlberg publicized the tragic incident. Read more about the event.

Law Day 2017

Each year, Law Day is celebrated nationally on May 1 to honor the rule of law. Law Day underscores how law and the legal process contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share. Law Day also provides an opportunity to recognize the role of courts in this democracy and the importance of jury service to maintaining the integrity of the courts.
Local bar associations, courts, schools, youth groups, and community organizations are encouraged to hold Law Day programs to help people understand how law keeps us free and how our legal system strives to achieve justice. Click here for more information and to download the photos.
