In its voyage from Manaus to Rio De Janeiro, Gol Transportes Aéreos Flight 1907 disappeared from radar while flying over the Amazon. The crash was caused by a mid-air collision with an American-owned Embraer Legacy business jet. Gol transportes Aéreos confirmed a crew of six employees, and a passenger list that included: 144 Brazilians, an American, German, French and Portuguese who all tragically lost their lives. TAM Express Flight 3054 was traveling to Sao Paulo, Brazil, from Porto Alegre, which is located in the southern region of Brazil. Upon landing, the plane sped down the tarmac at more than four times the speed of other planes landing. Authorities believe the cause may have been pilot or mechanical errors instead of slippery and short runways caused by intense rain in the hours before the accident. Investigations are ongoing. After speeding down the tarmac, the jet airliner skidded off the end of the runway across Avenida Washington Luis, a major freeway adjacent to the runway, and slammed into a fuel depot and an air cargo building and then burst into flames.
